Advice on finding a tutor

Hi,

I'd like advice on where to post information to look for a private English and Mandarin tutor (for a primary age child to help with homework) around the Fotan/Shatin area.

I'd also like advice on what the going rate for such tutoring would be.

Thanks!

Hi, I am a UK qualified teacher working for the ESF. I would suggest sending an email to the International schools in that area if you want to find a tutor. However the cost will very much depends on the teacher's qualifications so if you want a fully qualified teacher you will probably pay $600 + an hour. Native English speakers who are not qualified may work for less so it is up to you.

My husband recently advertised on the HKU web site (we live near the University maybe you could try Chinese U) for a Mandarin tutor. We got four students replying to the advert within 24 hours. The one we have hired is a second year student from the Mainland who speaks very good English, native Mandarin and good Cantonese (in fact amazing Cantonese given that she's learnt it since she arrived in Hong Kong). I was doubly happy because she is an education student and is happy to be somewhat innovative in her teaching methods. We pay $250 an hour.
Best wishes,
Barb

Posting?

I think the advice about finding a CUHK student is good. However, I don't know how to post to students there. How did your husband post info on the UHK site/BBS?
