Advice for wife giving birth in July

Hi,
My wife has just moved over to HK & is 6 months pregnant. She was over a couple of months ago & we saw doctors for scans & tests & all is healthy. The doctor gave us a referral letter for queen elizabeth hospital but because my wife didn't have an ID card they sent us away. Now my wife has moved over here & is due to pick her ID card up in 10 days I need to organise the hospital for her, but am not completely sure the correct process. Do I just contact the hospital directly to book her in or do we need another referral from a doctor?
Also, what happens about choosing doctors? Does it just depend on what doctors are on duty at the hospital when the time comes?
Sorry for the questions, maybe they are stupid but I have never dealt with anything like this before & I am worried about making everything go smoothly.
Is there anybody I can speak to for more advice as there are bound to be things I have missed. Back in england I would ask somebody I know who had been through this but here I don't know any ladies who have given birth here.
Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if you are planning on using a public hospital, then you have absolutely no choice of dr. you can ONLY choose drs if you go private and pay through the nose for it (many people find this to be an acceptable expense).

once you have her HKID (even if you just have the temporary paper while you wait for it), then you can call the hospital and ask them what you should do.
 
Thanks Carang. No option with the private hospitals because have been told they are all full anyway. We are on a tight budget so are just seeing private doctors for check-ups etc. But will phone the hospital to try to book her in.
Are there any other things I should be organising apart from booking the hospital?
 
they will tell you everything you need to do...

there isn't much else, except preparing for the arrival.
 
When your wife registers at QEH, make sure she brings her HKID, your HKID, a referral letter from a doctor and an address proof (eg utility bill). That's all you need, you can then book the first appointment for checkup. They will have information leaflets with all you need to know.
