Actual Matilda Birthing Costs for Emergency C-section

FYI- for those looking at insurance and checking on birth costs, here's the actual costs for my emergency c-section in dec. 2011 for a private room. I guess you can consider this is the maximum amount you'd have to pay in an emergency birth situation.

I also needed to check in one day early before my private room"package" started so you'll see an additional charge for accommodation. Also, normally, for c-sections you can stay 5 nites, but I was feeling fine so I checked out one day early so that explains the discount.

#'s are rounded to nearest 100 and all in HKD

Helpful info, but that would be the cost for an emergency c-section without major complications. Actually, the cost can be much more - throw in ICU and a bunch of specialist tests/ procedures for a couple days for the mother and the costs go up exponentially. Add a couple more specialists to take and read an MRI/ CT scan in the middle of the night and you can tack on thousands more. There are also variations depending on the time of day/ day of week that can make it more expensive. If you have an emergency c section on a Sunday night for example, all the doctors fees, etc. go up (room rates are the same though).
 
Do they actually do the discount for one night? Did you have to insist and fight for it or it was offered to you when being discharged?
I asked them, as I am booked for next week (planned c-section if nothing happens before and it has to be an emergency one), and they said that I can leave the hospital before 5 nights (if doctor allows) but that I will still have to pay the 5-nights package.
Which I found abusive. I had c-sections with my other two babies and after 3 nights I was back home.
 
Also, one more question...Do you have to bring your own pediatrician to assist the baby at the time of delivery and do all the tests they do in those first minutes (Apgar test)? That would also be an extra charge, I suppose.
 
i automatically got the 1 night discount without asking, but i had an emergency c-section so not sure if there is a difference between that and elective.

Did you arrange your own pediatrician or it was one who assisted the baby as part of the hospital staff, even if then charged to you separately?

I am booked for next week (if it does not happen before and have an emergency one) and have not arranged a pediatrician yet. In Europe, you do not have to worry about that, as the pediatrician is always there as part of the hospital staff and does all the tests that need to be done to babies in the first minutes of their lives.

doanni2, you are booked for the Matilda? How much will it cost for a planned c-section? I had one at the Prince of Wales last time and don't want to go public again so looking to either get insured or pay for it ourselves if we can't.
