Abdominal Twinges at 14 weeks

Has anyone experienced twinges around the abdominal area at around 13 to 14 weeks? I am a first time mum and am just paranoid that this is indicative of cramping before a miscarriage but actually there hasn't been any bleeding.

Another way to describe the feeling is almost like needing to go to the toilet for a #2 but with less intensity.

I'm sure there is a very logical explanation ie. uterine stretching to accomodate a growing baby, but I would really love some reassurance from experienced mothers! Thank you!!

I would say that it is probably uterine stretching. Does it happen when you stand up from sitting, or are quickly changing position or something? Or does it happen at other times? I'm 22 wks and I still get twinges, but it's usually when I stand up. I would say that if it is happening constantly and the pain lasts longer than a second or two, you might want to consult your doctor or make a visit to the hospital just to be sure.

Oh that is so comforting to know! It seems to happen at any odd time, especially in the morning, but there's no distinct pattern.

I have also been constipated since the beginning of the pregnancy, I'm sure that doesn't help? Been consuming bottles of prune juice, is that ok you think? It's supposed to be full of nutrients and keeps me more or less regular.

I'm thinking my digestion is just beginning to be affected by the pregnancy because the insides are getting squashed I suppose? Must learn to eat smaller and more frequent meals to eliminate this discomfort? All must contribute some factors to this abdominal situation.

Sorry to bombard this thread with such yucky bowel and digestive issues! Really appreciate any comments!

Thanks again Katie.

Hi Katie, I am 17 weeks and get a fair amount of twinges in my abdomen, I think it's pretty normal with all the activity and rearrangement that's going on in that area.

Maybe I'm lucky but have no problems with my bowels but I am good about having a balanced diet every day; protein, carbs, veg at every meal and eat a banana and apple every day. Avoid anything stodgy like cakes etc that will slow your system down for sure.

i remember having twinges throughout my pregnancy, especially during the first 3 mths & i was getting really paranoid. i think it's the uterine stretching. so if there's no bleeding, don't worry & try to relax.

yes, I also had abdominal twinges and like you, I would ask other pregnant women, and they said they never experienced anything like that! so i think it is normal but again, if it is persistent or if there is bleeding, definitely see a doctor.

ironically, i thought my 'system' was better while pregnant! I was way more regular than prior to getting pregnant which goes against the usual symptoms as doctors are more worried that you are constipated during this time than not!

Groan, I am so jealous of you all, I have been drinking so much water and been eating lots of fruit again too. I have comsumed 3 bottles of prune juice in the past month.

I HAVE noticed an interesting developement recently. Just started one-to-one pregnancy yoga with this brilliant teacher from the UK and have had 2 classes after work so far. Both times I went home and... was regular!
