9 weeks old with rattling chest...

My DD has developed a rattling chest/cough which has been around for 4 or 5 days now without too much sign of getting better.

My initial reaction was not to go to the Doctors as I want to avoid antibiotics and I figured he would simply say as long as she is feeding and sleeping then let it be.

Anyone have any natural remedies or advice on how to help to her get better?

I had heard of putting crushed garlic in her socks (bizarre yes but heard it works) has anyone tried this?

I recently caught a cold and then I noticed my 8 week old sounding congested in his nose. Luckily it didn`t progress to his chest. But all I could think of doing was running the humidifier in our room at night, hoping that the extra moisture would loosen it up. I think he`s mostly better now, but your DD sounds like she has gotten more of a cold. Personally I would play the hysterical mother card and see the doctor. You could tell him that you want to avoid antibiotics.

Thanks Shenzhennifer, yeah think we may have to, poor thing has had a dreadful afternoon fussy eating and now shes crying her little heart out...fingers crossed she is feeling better tomorrow.

Otherwise off to the Doc's...

you could try standing in the bathroom with the hot water running in the shower/bath letting it steam up. That might ease it, but I would still go to the Dr.

Hope she feels better soon.
