Came across this this week.
Food for thought.
Food for thought.
There are 6.5 billion reasons to view birth as a political act.
A woman shared her birth story with me the other day (that happens a lot). It is a hospital birth story and she is proud, as she should be.
"They let her" drink some juice while in labor.
"They let her" birth without drugs.
"They let her" husband help to deliver the baby.
"They let her" hold her baby right away.
I am happy for her but I wouldn't have "let her" do any of those things. They are not mine to "let."
The illusion of artificial authority remains so tangible that people feel victorious when they receive permission to enact their essential birth rights.
The subtlety is vicious.
