1 year old with a grey hair strand

I just noticed today that my 14 month old girl has a grey hair strand. I've never ever seen anyone with grey hair at such early age.

Has anyone experienced or heard anything similar? Do I really need to worry as much as I'm worrying now?

what are you worrying about? is it one strand of hair? if yes, that seems a little trivial to worry so much...if it is more, maybe she'll be unique? that's nothing to worry about either...

Thanks for the reply Carang. Yes it's just one strand of grey hair. I was worried thinking may be its due to lack of some vitamin, etc. Otherwise she is quite a cheerful and active baby... touchwood!!

the colour of your hair has to do with your genes or hair dye... not much to do with vitamins (i don't think)

I wouldn't worry about just a single grey hair. I apparently had one when I was about 3 years old and then didn't have another one until close to 30...

I know Cara, so was I ! Just mentioned it in passing to the Dr whilst we were getting some shots. The Dr had to look it up !!!

My child had more like 10 grey hairs.

Taken from above article.

"Gray hair in a child should be investigated. When I see a child with gray hairs in the office, I look to three sources to try to determine the underlying cause. First, I find out what I can about the family history. Next, I perform a thorough physical examination looking for helpful clues. Finally, I obtain three laboratory tests: a vitamin B12 level, a complete blood count (CBC), and a thyroid function panel."
