Pushchairs & Airplanes

Hi,

I'm planning on purchasing a pushchair and car seat when back in the UK next month. I hope to bring them back to HK on the airplane. Has anyone else done this? Were you questioned or refused by the airline (ie pushchair but no baby, except in tummy!)

I have only taken a pushchair on a plane with a baby so can't answer your specific question. However, a pushchair and car seat are just pieces of luggage so the relevant questions would be:
- are they wrapped/protected so that it is appropriate to check them in. I presume they will still be in their boxes if you have just purchased them.
- what is your luggage weight allowance and will you have to pay excess baggage charges?
 
I've taken a Maclaren XT in it's original box on Cathay from the UK to Hong Kong without any problems. I called the Cathay desk at heathrow before the flight to make sure it was acceptable. It was a present for my sister-in-laws new son.

I've just bought another brand new Maclaren XT from boots.com for 53.00gbp (from website misprice) and plan to take it on Virgin to HK in the new year.

Speculator - what a bargain! :o)

We will be flying with Virgin and entitled to 3 pieces each (total 30kgs) so hopefully it shouldn't take us over our weight allowance, along with all the other baby stuff stashed in the suitcases!!

I took my new Maclaren Techno XT from the UK to the HK in the summer when I was 32 weeks pregnant. It was in its travel case. We (hubby and I) had two other pieces of luggage which weighed approx 25kgs each - we were travelling Premium Economy and our weight limit was 23kgs per person. They were no problems with us checking in the buggy.
