Due Oct-Dec 08??

Happy to join you guys!

Hi, I am currently in the 7th week and will be due around mid-Oct. I just a trans-vaginal ultrasound in Shanghai and the doctor saw my baby in the uterus but the heartbeat is not obvious yet. I will go back to Hong Kong next week and have another checkup at a private clinic in two weeks. One of my hubby's coworkers recommend Lucy Lord and her associate Grace Cheung. Anyone been with one of them?
BTW, I live in Bel Air, anyone close?

So much alike!

Just read though the messages on this thread and happy to find out i have so much in common with you guys. I have some mild pain in the ab and on both sides sometimes too and I have to eat constantly to keep myself away from nausea as well. It seems that morning sickness is growing serious in this week but I haven't threwn up yet. Wish it just go this far!

Welcome Audlin!! Your babies will be close together!! I had a friend who last year had her two only 11 months apart!! It has it's benefits though I suppose!!

All this insurance stuff is giving me a headache... I don't know what to do hospital-wise... and I hate that we have to decide so soon!! Hopefully I'll be able to figure more out in this next week when I go to see the doctor and everything... *sigh*

I've been procrastinating about EVERYTHING since I found out I was pregnant. I haven't done any ironing for over a week and I have a huge pile to do!! I feel like a lazy bum!!

Hi ladies!

Today the pain in my lower ab is better, and when it does hurt, it's like a bit on the left and then a bit on the right....I've been reading lots online about ectopic and miscarriage and scarying myself crazy. I was like taking my pants off every couple of minutes to see if there was any blood! Ha Ha! So silly of me! I'm just gonna relax and try to be cool until the next prenatal check up.

Nicolejoy, lucky for you that you can see your baby next Tuesday! My first scan will be next Friday. I so can't wait! By the way, there's a Bossini right across the street from where Dr. Ho's office is, and that shop carries some basic maternity clothes, like cardigans, jeans, tops, nothing too cute or fancy, I already bought some and am wearing them trying to look more pregnant than I actually am!

Audlin and Tomato - congrats on your BFP's.

Audlin - Wow, you'll have your work cut out with two little 'uns. It'll be so nice to have someone on this thread who's been through it all before as you can tell us all what to expect. It obviously can't have been that bad otherwise you wouldn't be here again so soon ;-)

Tomato - My good friend was with Lucy Lord and raves about her. Apparently she has a no nonsense attitude - my friends birth experience with her was great. I'm with Dr Ho but that's because I was seeing him for fertility issues and Lucy Lord doesn't specialise in that.

Nicolejoy - I'm with Dr Ho too - he's fab and his nurse Kelly is great too. I think he delivers at the Matilda and the Adventist. I chose the Matilda as the Adventist want a $20,000K deposit when you book and they charge an admin fee if you cancel so you wouldn't get all your dosh back. We're going private as health insurance covers the cost, otherwise I'd go to Queen Mary as I've heard really good things about it.

Soon2bmom - Glad the pain has subsided somewhat and you're feeling a little better.

Hello to everyone else x

I'd have to stuff something up my shirt to look pregnant!! My tummy is still totally flat!! I've been looking at pregnancy clothes but I haven't bought anything yet...

I just found out I've been reading my insurance wrong - I can only claim up to $30,000 for EVERYTHING pregnancy related... doctors, hospital, scans, etc... and I don't think that $30,000 goes that far over here!! So probably we'll be going to a public hospital I think... if we have any problems, maybe we'll upgrade our medical insurance and go private next time around.

I'm finding the whole hospital thing so overwhelming at the moment... and I'm REALLY emotional!! It's insane. Are any of you guys like that? Like the other day, I was at a restaurant and I wanted to order something and he told me they didn't have it and I felt like crying!!

I am chuckling away to myself about you all wanting to fit maternity clothes. I was the exact same first time round and was wearing maternity from 3 months even though there was nothing to see. In fact, there wasn't anything to see until about 6/7 months which I found very frustrating. H & M has a nice wee maternity range and it is really cheap. I will probably just recycle though and be unfashionably last season :0)
My problem now is that I have been overindulging since Charlie was born and started a diet n January as I was heaver than when I was pregnant, only to now find out I'm preggers again. Ahhhh! I've heard that with the second pregnancy you are always bigger to as everything is more stretchy. Double Ahhhhh!
With regard to the emotions it is perfectly normal. My husband used to ban me from watching TV as I would even cry at cute adverts for no reason at all. And don’t get me on Oprah! That would wipe me out for a whole morning.
Charlie is keeping me on my toes, particularly knackered today as I was carrying her around for most of it, out and about running errands. I must start trying to take it a bit easier. I did almost get revenge on her this morning though for puking on me on an almost daily basis as I almost vomited on her as I leant over to pick her up from her cot. Karma :0)

I'm emotional at the BEST of times!! I was flying back from Australia last year and watched The Bridge to Terabithia. I was BAWLING so much that the flight attendant came over concerned, asking if there was anything that was wrong and if he could do anything ;) it was so embarrassing!! I cry in just about any sad movie...

Oh - I went and saw PS I love you the other day, right after my first "slightly positive" pregnancy test - but I was still in denial... and I bawled the entire movie too!! By the time I got out of the cinema, my eyes were so red and puffy!!

Hi mummies...
My abdominal pain is a bit better today - lots of sleep and a hot water bottle seems to do the trick!!

I have decided to try public hospital- I have heard great reports from many guys at work whose wives have gone public and saving 100K is a re-assuring option with a baby on the way!!!

I went to mothercare to look at baby things today and felt overwhelmed by it all....I am so excited and terrified all at once.

On another note does anyone know if they do antenatal classes in HK???

Katie

Where is Mothercare?

The other day, I was in Apita in Taikoo Shing - they had a big baby sale... but it was INSANE - so crowded. I couldn't even THINK there...

I've got my doctor's appointment TOMORROW YAY!!

We've pretty much decided to go public as well - our insurance covers some but not all - and we'll have enough other costs to worry about!!

I'm sure they do antenatal classes here - I've heard about some you can do through the hospitals, and others you can do with other organisations like Annerley - http://www.annerley.com.hk/

Does anyone have gastric problems?

Hi ladies,

There's no more pain in my lower abdomen, but my stomach is killing me! I can hear lots of air and acid moving around in my stomach. This morning when I woke up, it was actually a little painful, I'm worried that it'll just worsen over time.

Anyone else has the same problem? What are your tried remedies?

Thanks!

I haven't really had that problem...

I just got back from my appt with Dr Ho though - it was soooo cool!! We could see the baby's heart beat - and there's only ONE baby (thank God!!) - and everything looks fine so far!! I've gotta go back in about 3 weeks...

Ok - booked in to get my hair highlighted on Saturday - my hairdresser does not go right to the root so I think this is ok?? Any advice? x

Soon2bmom - Have you tried peppermint tea? I always find that works if I'm a bit windy or have tummy problems!

Nicolejoy - Congrats on seeing the heartbeat - you must be so relieved. How many weeks are you now?

Kharel - I've had my hair highlighted (with foils) whilst I've been pregnant and it all turned out ok.

My calculation says 6 weeks today, but the doc said looking at the size and everything, maybe only 5 1/2 or so - but I should have a better idea of a due date at my next appointment in 3 weeks - I'll be somewhere around 9 weeks then... it's a relief to see the heartbeat though because the "odds" for miscarriage goes down from about 15% to 2% when you see the heart beat - and that's been a big fear of mine. My mum had a miscarriage when I was around 12 or so, and the thought of possibly losing my FIRST has been freaking me out... it took me long enough to get pregnant!! (over a year!!)

I took my hubby to the appointment as well - and the doc told us no "loving" for the next month lol

Nicole - Yeah, Dr Ho also told us that we couldn't have "intercourse" until the end of the 1st tri. Poor hubby although I'm not that bothered as I don't feel in the mood at the moment - I just feel so sick most of the time.

That's also what Dr. Ho told us (yes, I dragged my husband along, too) at our first appointment. It doesn't bother me too much at the moment. Although I don't really throw up, I just feel sick and easily annoyed most of the time...

It was so funny that at the end of the last appointment, Dr. Ho said "next time we will do an ultrasound and we will be able to know whether it's one or two!" I think he probably just says that to everyone, but it's got my husband really excited! Now he keeps thinking it's two! I wonder how you breastfeed twins, is it possible to do two at the same time? :-)

Gastric problem is very common among pregnant women. My stomach was killing me when I was about 5-6 weeks pregnant. Then I did some research and found ways to fight this problem. Now I am at 9 weeks and it's getting better.

Things you can do to help:
1. Eat slowly to avoid drawing air into your body. When you eat fast you actually swallow a lot of air which are then trapped as air pockets in your gut.

2. Do not eat raw veggi. They produce a lot of gas when being digested.

3. Avoid onions, cabbage, fried food, rich sauces, sugary stuff, and beans.

Hope this helps.
