I'm looking for a part time helper through the labour department (methodist centre) and it seems to take a long time. Would be grateful if any of you could share your experience of how long it took you to get part time helper through this method and if there are any other avenues I should be exploring. Thanks!

We had interviews lined up within days and most were available immediately.

Are you using the online facility? We did. Not sure about the Methodist Centre, sorry.

However, this was five years ago so things may have changed since then.

Good luck.

Hi! I looked up a domestic helper agency on the geoexpat website and was surprised to find that it had a part-time option at a very reasonable price. I have not tried their service but am intending too. The company is called Homeeasy - www.homeeasy.com.hk. They even provide a service for those of you who need a replacement helper for whatever period you need. The charges vary from $180-$600 a day.

Yes, Angeilin. My friend called and days later they said there was no one available to come so far out (she lives at Ma On Shan). I too faxed a request and have not heard back. I think if you live on HK island it's easier, but that's just going by the reply.

HI Spokey

I tried the homeeasy website but it is not working so maybe the company does not exist anymore.

I also tried the online facility but they said nothing matched my requirements. It is probably because I live on the HK side and there are too many people looking for part time helpers.

I'm currently using merry maids but they work stricly 4 hours and there is not enough work to keep them occupied for so long. I just need the basic cleaning to be done as my helper's main responsibility is my son.

HI Spokey

Did search in internet and found the homeeasy website. It's working now!
Thanks. I'll have a look to see if they can offer more flexible part time work.

Angeilin, if you just want someone to do the basic chore I can check if my previous PT helper can help. She is an Indian with HK PR ID Card so can work legally. I introduced her to my friend who is very happy with her service. I stopped using her service before I delivered because I needed a FT helper to look after my baby but am happy to introduce her to other employers. One downside is she can't read so you can't just leave a note at home and tell her what to do. If you (or your helper) are home when she comes then it shouldn't be a problem. If you are interested pls PM me.
