Hi friends,

I am TTC. Its been more than 1.5 year now.
Someone please suggest me a doctor to help us with this.
Is it true that fertility docs here may fool us by artificially exaggerating our problem to extract money.
Kindly help us through friends.

Thanks

Yes, I would really recommend starting with that. That will tell you if and when you are ovulating so you can be sure you're timing intercourse correctly. There's no point spending loads of money on expensive tests if it turns out all you needed to do was change which days you get busy :)

Alternatively, if it shows you're not ovulating you will know what the problem is and can start getting the necessary treatment as soon as possible.

Great !! I start that right away. Also... Could you please tell which doctor to start with if I am not ovulating ?

Sorry I don't know about doctors. I would recommend the book 'taking charge of your fertility' and the website (tcoyf.com) as a good place to help you understand how to temp. Good luck.

It depends on your situation.
If you're over 30 and making an effort -- doing your homework, tracking ovuluation, doing time intercourse, etc -- and still nothing is happening, you should go for a checkup. If there is a medical problem, you will want to know now before your fertility levels drop.
If you're 20 and not really trying -- maybe it's just taking time.

As for doctors -- some are more honest than others. I found a certain well-known Central doctor quite pushy with expensive treatments we didn't need, but who did get us pregnant. So it's hard to say. (The extra expensive treatments were actually after I got preggers, so I switched doctors)

But I think the main thing is you. If you're well-read on the subject, and quite confident and firm about your needs, then you will less likely be bullied. If you go in like an airhead or say (as one idiot friend did) "Oh, we'll pay ANYTHING to get pregnant. You just make all the decisions for me!" Yeah, then a less scupulous doctor might take advantage.

It would help on this forum if you gave us some details, like your age, medical condition, etc.

Thank you Gracey for your reply..
I am 27 year old. I once charted my temp around 1 year ago...found that I ovulated..but opk test never showed positive..we had ic just twice or may be thrice the whole month (concentrated only during the ovulation week )
I have hypothyroidism .. M on thyroxine 50 mcg.. my Tsh , t3 & t4 are normal now.

Hi prag, some women don't have any luck with opk kits, they are handy but the important thing is the temperature shift.

But I wanted to say 2/3 times a month isn't very often if you're ttc, it would be a good idea to try more frequently. Also, are you making sure you have intercourse *before* you ovulate? By the time your temp shows you have ovulated it will be too late.

If you only tracked your temperature once, and you only try 2-3 times a month, that's no very much. I don't mean that as a criticism -- just that you probably can't conclude that it's not working just based on that.
None of us here are doctors - if you have a condition like hypothyroidism, only a specialist can tell you if it's affecting your fertility.
As for pushy doctors -- they'll only push if you let them. Go in educated and confident, and ask for a fertility check-up. They'll do some blood work and a scan for you, and a semen test for your husband / partner. It's not super expensive, but will tell you if you have a genuine medical condition, or just some bad luck.
And if some unscrupulous doctor tries to push something you don't want, just say no. Most doctors here are fine, though.

Thanks Aquarian...
What u saying is true I guess... That's not enuff.. :))

Gracey...
As per you are saying I think I will temp and try for a few more months now.. May be 2-3 months.
If no luck...then will go for the tests.
Thanks so much.

The usual advice is to go for testing after a year of trying if you're under 35. As you're only been having ic 2/3 times per month and you don't know when you were ovulating, you could very easily have just missed the egg each month. I would recommend waiting at least 6 months, if not a year, before paying for tests. But temping and tracking cervical fluid will help you time things better in the future.

Aquarian, as per your suggestion I got the book : tcoyf . To my amazement , this book is so damn informative . Looks like getting pregnant is so easy ..

Lol! I wish it was always easy but sadly that's not the case for everyone.

I'm glad you like the book and I hope it helps. I agree it's very informative, girls should be taught this stuff in school!

I went to Dr. Derek Lo. Pm me if you need more details :)
I do agree with others. You have to be more "aggressive" in your action but "passive" in your mind while you are ttc-ing. It's not as easy as teenage mum reality show, one time and poof...lol
I personally tried 12 "aggressive" cycle. The cycle that I gave up, we got bfp
