Does anyone know of any brands of fish oil and calcium supplements that have been approved for pregnant people? Thanks

Hmmm....I don't know about the "approved for pregnant people" part but I will tell you what I used with my pregnancies and during breastfeeding:

Supplements: USANA Essentials

I was taking Materna until I was about 4 months pregnant with my first child and then I just started feeling weak and like the vitamins were just not supporting me nutritionally. So, I asked for some advice and came upon USANA. I had been taking USANA in secondary school but hadn't for years. The Essentials were fantastic during both of my pregnancies and now that I'm breastfeeding. I got my energy back and felt great.

Fish Oil: USANA BioOmega Oils
I just started taking these when I was breastfeeding and I like them.

I'm taking Elevit as a supplement but I take Usana Calcium. Their offices are in the World Trade Centre in Causeway Bay.

Supplements such as Calcium and Fish oil from highly reputable suppliers can be purchased readily and very cheaply from any drugstore.

Usana is an MLM company (similar to Amway) with questionable practices and high prices. If someone recommends the product to you, question their motives as usually there is a profit motive behind it.

I would urge anyone thinking of doing business with them to do some google searches and then decide for themselves. Search for:
1) "usana scam"
2) "usana high cost"
3) "usana product problem"

I'm taking materna as well. I asked my OB if it was necessary to take calcium supplement. He said materna is sufficient... Is it safe to buy over the counter supplement while pregnant ? Maybe it's better to ask doctor before starting anything

No motive whatsoever in recommending Usana calcium, it's simply what I take. HC is right, I think Usana is one of those companies where ppl buy and the more they sell to others the better deal they get or something like that. We solely buy for ourselves as they are good quality. Don't actually know if you can just go there and buy them without having an account. I didn't like their fish oil as I could taste fish all day long. Taking Blackmores that I brought from Australia- not sure if you can buy it here. It is "odourless", meaning it has no (well, less) fishy aftertaste.

I would be careful about which oil you take as the not so good ones may have mercury.

Blackmores are very widely available (Watsons, Mannings, SaSa, CrCare and many more) and they also do Calcium supplements.

Watch the fish oil - depending on which fish it is derived from, it could be contaminated. I highly recommend Nordic Naturals brand - they have a fish oil esp. for pregnant and lactating women. I got it from an online US store but I think it's sold at CitySuper Healthquest also.

I've been taking Blackmores Pregnancy & Breastfeeding gold for a few weeks but I've have noticed it has a strong fishy smell due to the fish oil which I find very off putting. Can anyone recommend a good vitamin alternative minus the fishy smell? Please share what works for you.

For fish oil, I've been taking Equazen mumomega, which is sold at my OB's clinic (Central Health). However, I've also noticed that they're available at Bumps2Babes and Mannings (look in the pharmacy section of the IFC branch). It has no smell or aftertaste whatsoever and you take one capsule a day. I can't remember how much I paid, but I think it was around HK$180 for 30 capsules.

As for prenatal vitamins, I'm taking Pregnacare original by Vitabiotics. This is available from Mannings (look in the pharmacy section) and Bumps2Babes. It costs around HK$79 for a 30-day supply.
